Shipment volume of the global mobile phone industry declined sequentially and year-on-year in the second quarter of 2017, to nearly 450 million units. Of mobile phones shipped, 349.8 million units were smartphones, down 4.9% sequentially. Samsung is expected to see its shipment volume score 98 million units in the fourth quarter of 2017, bolstered by the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8. Meanwhile, following the recent release of three new iPhones, Apple is likely to witness its shipment volume to increase significantly to 80 million in the fourth quarter of 2017, up from 45 million in the previous quarter. Therefore, it is anticipated that shipment volume of the global mobile phone industry will reach nearly 500 million units in the third quarter of 2017, and hit nearly 574 million units in the last quarter of 2017.
