Tigo launched 4G in key areas of Chad in 2014 and Airtel extended its 3G network in Chad, with the launch of 3G services in the cities of Abeche and Mondou. BMI believes that Airtel's introduction of 3G services in Chad will help fill a gap in the country's vastly underserved broadband market. However, limited competition, poor access to international bandwidth and low consumer spending power will limit the growth potential of advanced mobile data services in Chad. Despite slow take-up, we expect the launch of 3G and 4G services to be an important revenue growth strategy for Chad's two major mobile operators.
