Guam, a small but dynamic telecom market, is a major nexus between the USA and Asia

BuddeComm’s report Guam - Telecoms, Mobile and Broadband - Market Insights and Statistics provides a comprehensive overview of the trends and developments in the telecommunications market of Guam, including industry and operator data updates and estimates through to 2014.

Background
The island of Guam is a territory of the USA; its residents are US citizens, and its military installations are some of the most strategically important US bases in the Pacific. Guam has one of the most advanced telecom systems in the Pacific region, with international connectivity ensured by no less than nine major submarine cable networks. As a result, Guam is considered a telecom hub, a nexus between the USA and Asia.

Telecom market competition
Despite its small size, Guam’s telecom market is highly competitive, with three major companies providing both fixed line and mobile services; of these, two also compete in the pay TV market. The fixed-line leader is the incumbent GTA, while in the mobile and pay TV market, the leader is Docomo Pacific. Several minor companies provide services primarily to corporate customers.

Broadband market
Fixed broadband services are widely available on Guam, and mobile broadband is growing strongly thanks to the launch of HSPA and LTE services. The main broadband technologies are DSL and cable modem, which are both available throughout the island and reach most of the population. In terms of coverage, Guam is one of the most connected states/territories of the USA.
