This IDC study presents forecasts and analysis for the China IT security market from 2010 to 2014 and a review of the market trends in 2H09. "In 2H09, the IT security software market revenue amounted to US$214.5 million, increasing 16.3% year over year (YoY) but marking a slightly lower growth rate compared with 1H09. In 2009, the market revenue reached US$378 million with 1H09 and 2H09 respectively accounting for shares of 43.3% ad 56.7%," says Jeffery Dong, research manager, IT security research, IDC China. "In 2H09, 360 released a free software known as 360 Anti-Virus. Using word-of-mouth and large-scale marketing campaigns, 360 Anti-Virus soon attracted some of the customers that used to pay for licensed security software. 360's profit model differs from that of traditional antivirus vendors. Its 'forever free antivirus' marketing strategy is unlike any other company that provides 'promotional free copies.' As such, 360, its products, and its strategy will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the antivirus software market in China. In fact, in 2H09, all leading vendors distinctly felt the pressure 360 imposed, especially in the consumer market," he adds.
