This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J10060102, presents a summary of a survey conducted among WAN managers of companies with 100 or more employees on various topics including the use of leased lines, IP VPN, wide area Ethernet, wireless data lines, overseas WAN implementation, network redundancy, and IT contracts/budgets. IDC Japan has conducted this survey for six consecutive years and has also compared the trends over time.
This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J10060102, presents a summary of a survey conducted among WAN managers of companies with 100 or more employees on various topics including the use of leased lines, IP VPN, wide area Ethernet, wireless data lines, overseas WAN implementation, network redundancy, and IT contracts/budgets. IDC Japan has conducted this survey for six consecutive years and has also compared the trends over time.
"It is clear from this survey that many user companies believe that server/datacenter consolidation and thin-client implementation will lead to increased bandwidth of WAN lines. It is also clear that large companies tend to increase their overseas WAN budgets even in the recession. Carriers should recognize the upper layer technology/market trends and business trends of user companies and utilize this knowledge in the sales and development of WAN services," says Yoko Ono, senior market analyst, Communications, IDC Japan.
