"Broadband net additions are no longer the main driver for the development of the broadband CPE market in EMEA," said Jan Hein Bakkers, research manager at IDC. "Replacement of devices for increased functionality or the migration to higher-speed technologies such as VDSL and DOCSIS 3.0 are now the key factors driving the market, but these drivers will not be enough to return the market to the record levels achieved in 2006-2007."
