This IDC study shows that the China's Internet datacenter (iDC) service needs, which are closely related with information infrastructure development, are also constantly upgrading and developing. In 2009, although affected by both the national policy and the global economic downturns, China's iDC service market maintained a good momentum of rapid growth. In the same year, China's iDC service total market size reached US$667.1 million, increasing by 22.7% compared with 2008's figures. IDC also expects this market to reach a value of US$1.9 billion in 2014, with a five-year (2009-2014) compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.8%.

"Under the strict supervision of the government, China's Internet market will continue to be regulated. To some extent, this will restrict the rapid development of the iDC service market in the short term. Cooperation and transformation will be the themes in future of the iDC service market. Telecom carriers will slow down the speed of datacenter construction and they will consider building special iDCs to meet the customers' specific needs. Non-carrier iDC service providers (SPs) will focus on the transformation of value-added services (VASs) and will improve VAS capabilities. The market will highlight some relatively larger, non-carrier SPs. Moreover, non-carrier iDC SPs mergers and acquisitions (M&A) will be accelerated. The future of the iDC service market will show a trend of integration of telecom carriers as well as some larger iDC SPs, which will occupy most of the market shares," says Oscar Zhao, market analyst, Service and Telecom Research, IDC China.
