The global telecoms software market is forecast to grow from USD19.5 billion in 2009 to USD26.9 billion in 2013 at a CAGR of 8%. The global recession will have an impact on software investments in 2009 and the first half of 2010. Gross domestic production in OECD countries fell 2.1% in 1Q 2009 – the largest decline since records began in 1960. Our forecast assumes that countries already in a recession will come out of recession in late 2009 or early 2010.

Our forecast assumes that countries already in a recession will come out of recession in late 2009 or early 2010. Global telecoms service revenue is growing despite the economic impact on most developed countries. In Western Europe, where GDP is forecast to be down by 4.5%, telecoms revenue is expected to decline by only 3% from 2008 to 2009. The service delivery platform sector will increase from USD3.2 billion in 2009 to USD6.1 billion in 2013.Spending on telecoms software in Central and Latin America is forecast to grow with a CAGR of 13%, while that in the Asia–Pacific will grow with a CAGR of 11% over the five year period. Software segments that will outperform the overall software market include real-time convergent charging, telecoms application servers, service management, multi-service activation, self care and middleware associated with SOA and Web services.
