The mobile phone manufacturing industry in China is moving upmarket as makers veer away from low-end models and increase emphasis on advanced handsets to strengthen competitiveness and boost margins.
The result is an influx of smartphones, and 3G, dual-SIM GSM and feature phones with multimedia capability, GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Megapixel cameras, A/V recording, G-sensors, larger storage capacity and mobile TVs are likewise integrated into most models.
China is still the world's largest manufacturing hub for mobile phones. Suppliers are confident of export growth this year, riding on a 21 percent YoY increase in outbound shipments in the first half.
They expect overseas deliveries to hit 550 million to 600 million handsets by year-end. The aggregate shipments will account for 50 percent of the global total.
