The IP surveillance cameras export manufacturing industry in China is currently at crossroads. Rising global demand for high-tech surveillance, coupled with audio and video compression technology enhancements and network infrastructure improvements, is fueling production expansion in the country and attracting new suppliers to the line.
Even though the product currently accounts for less than 5 percent of China's total CCTV camera production, output and exports are projected to rise steadily in the coming months.
Likewise, the supplier base is expected to grow by an estimated 50 percent to 100 makers by the end of 2008.
China suppliers have been producing IP surveillance cameras since 2003, but growth has been lackluster due to the high technology and infrastructure requirements as well as restricted product performance and reliability.
However, the recent shift toward digitalization and intelligent surveillance has spurred renewed interest in IP surveillance cameras. The industry, nevertheless, is still in its nascent stages.
The majority of current suppliers are small- and medium-sized enterprises that produce entry-level mini surveillance cameras and fixed-lens box-type cameras. Many companies, in fact, started out as makers of CCTV cameras or digital video recorders. They expanded their product range in anticipation of demand for IP surveillance cameras.
The following are some of the key trends we see in China's IP surveillance camera industry: - Most suppliers are likely to maintain export quotes at current levels or decrease them despite shrinking profit margins and rising yuan valuations. - Developed markets such as North America and Western Europe will remain the key export destinations because of their higher tolerance of price variations. - The majority of shipments will continue to be exported as OEM and ODM orders. Few China companies will promote their own brands in the near future due mainly to the high cost involved and low market acceptance. - Improving network transmission will remain the primary product development focus for suppliers as this is one of the key differentiators for the product line.
This report covers both wired and wireless IP surveillance cameras, including mini types, standard box types, dome types and high-speed dome types. Most IP surveillance cameras feature embedded Linux real-time operating system (RTOS), built-in Web server, support for multiple network protocols and a host of integrated functions.
The Products & Prices section in this report details the specifications and price ranges of IP surveillance cameras made in China. It also provides a breakdown of the key components in a typical IP surveillance camera and details where these components are sourced from.
