Mark leads Informa Telecoms and Media’s global research and business intelligence teams and activities. In this new role, Mark is responsible for developing Informa Telecoms and Media’s thought leadership in the converging mobile, broadband and entertainment sectors.

Mark’s own expertise is in mobile and fixed operator strategy. He was the founder and managing editor of a series of cutting-edge research services in the 1990s including Global Mobile, 3G Mobile and Mobile Media. ‘The last 10 years have seen a remarkable transformation in the communications sector driven by mobility, the Internet and new broadband technologies. It’s going to be fascinating to see whether the next ten years will see these trends allowing telecoms operators to become even more powerful forces in society or whether they could ultimately prove their downfall.’

Mark brings 16 years of experience in the telecoms and media research and publishing sectors. In his previous role Mark was publishing director of Informa Telecoms and Media’s newsletter, database and reports-publishing business. He joined Informa in 1999 as part of Informa’s acquisition of Baskerville, an independent business information provider. He started his career in business intelligence in 1989 as a reporter on two Financial Times newsletters, Telecom Markets and Mobile Communications.

Mark is a regular speaker and moderator at international conferences in Europe, North America and Asia. He also conducts regular briefing sessions with major banks, telecoms and IT vendors and operators on the state of the fixed and mobile telecoms sectors.

Gavin Patterson, Analyst

Principal Analyst and Editorial Director

Gavin is currently Editorial Director of premium content in the Strategies & Markets portfolio at Informa Telecoms & Media. He is also Head of New Product Development across the group and has been closely following developments across the mobile industry since 1997. Gavin has built up a wealth of experience covering everything from the development of regional markets and operator strategies to the evolution of data networks and fixed/mobile convergence. Gavin is a regular fixture at international conferences and conducts regular briefings on issues surrounding technology development and operator strategy.

Gavin has been a business journalist since 1989 and was previously employed as Business Editor at the Hong Kong Standard before moving to the Eastern Express as Financial Editor. In 1997, he joined Baskerville to launch a number of new services, including Pan-Asian Telecom, 3G Mobile and Global Mobile Daily, and has specialised in the telecoms industry ever since. In January 2003, Gavin was appointed Editorial Director at Baskerville and now oversees a host of different regional and technology-based services. Gavin’s expertise includes:

Devine Kofiloto, Analyst
Principal Analyst

Devine currently manages Informa T&M's wireless research team. His own research agenda tracks developments in the wireless market with a focus on the Nordic markets and also the messaging space, where he has done extensive work on messaging and PTT within the European market area; examining key market drivers, market trends, as well as analysing technological developments within this space. Devine’s expertise includes:

  • Global market trends
  • Mobile messaging
  • PTT

Recent research contributions in the messaging/PTT arena have included authoring the SMS Insight entitled ‘Beyond Personal Messaging’ two PTT Insights entitled ‘Maximising Mobile Revenues’ and ‘Emerging Pricing & Positioning Strategies’. He was also a contributing author to Informa Telecoms & Media’s MMS strategic report.

Devine is frequently quoted on developments in the messaging and wireless market and regularly represents Informa Telecoms & Media at Industry events, including the 3GSM World Congress.

Prior to joining Informa T&M, Devine worked as a researcher within the Norwegian School of Management, from which he graduated with an MSc. in Energy Management. He also holds a degree in Marketing.

Mike Roberts, Analyst
Mike Roberts is lead author of WiMAX Broadband Convergence and a Principal Analyst at Informa T&M.

His research areas include Mobile broadband, WiMAX, Wi-Fi, Wireless VoIP, Fixed-Mobile Convergence and IP Multimedia Subsystem.

His primary outputs are reports, including Future Mobile Broadband: HSPA, EV-DO, WiMAX & LTE and Municipal Wireless Broadband.

Mike has been tracking emerging mobile, wireless and fixed markets since 2000, when he started contributing to Informa research services such as 3G Wireless Broadband and Telecom Markets.

He regularly presents and chairs at key industry events and provides comments on mobile broadband, convergence and other topics to the press.

Daniel Winterbottom, Analyst

Dan is a senior analyst at Informa Telecoms and Media, where he has worked for seven years in a variety of roles. He has authored a number of reports and studies based around the mobile industry, with a specific focus on mobile content and application strategies.

He has researched and written reports on Mobile Adult Services, Mobile Messaging and Mobile Entertainment Services amongst others. Most recently, he has authored an in-depth study on the rise of mobile communities and user generated content and the issues associated with harnessing them to drive data traffic.

Through the course of his work he has been called upon to participate in a range of industry events and is often quoted in national and international press. He has previously worked as a fraud and billing systems analyst and conference researcher. He holds a masters degree in Instrumentation and Analytical Science from UMIST University in Manchester, UK.

David McQueen, Analyst
Senior Consultant and Analyst, Informa T&M

David focuses on mobile handset developments and vendor strategies worldwide. Over the past 5 years he has built up an in-depth knowledge of the market developing in-house original online research amongst Informa Telecoms & Media's extensive database of telecoms professionals.

David has 12 years experience in the telecoms research and consulting sector and has gained first hand experience in the handset markets’ needs and requirements. At Informa Telecoms & Media, David is the lead author on a range of strategic reports including:
